lets see, DB2 is just as expensive if not more. mysql and postgres suck compared to SQL server. we do use them a little. mysql is good for websites but not for internal databases. it's missing a lot of features that SQL and Oracle have because the former CEO is a moron and only put in features to make it standards compliant. i don't think it even had a x64 version back in 2006.
AD is a killer solution for internal IT. it sucks for customer facing ldap, but for your employee database it's great. integrates with MS exchange and upgrades over the years are easy.
This lot on these boards are amazing. Incredible what this place has devolved into.
If you people were all here 14 years ago, I guess you would have TORN INTO Apple for hiring Tim Cook from the "beige" PC maker?
or the other execs who came from macromedia and IBM

How about a breathing tax, somebody's gotta pay for all that CO2, right?
Let's tax blinking, too... That's a waste of energy.
Get real. Lots of countries have high taxes on car ownership or on fuel - noone has a "breathing tax".

I would say the app has some potential but needs a lot of work. No need to name all the issues since they are obviously already mentioned in the thread.
I encountered a lot of "WTF?"-style behavior quirks with Garmin myself. It does the job, but the deal-breaker for me is that the volume slider in settings sets both your device volume, and the speech volume. So you either deal with quiet music, or very loud instruction if you are using your phone to also play music.
It handles drop-outs of network fine, but requires you to be on the network to get a route planned, and you can't pre-plan a route. So if you are say, planning a camping trip, you will only get GPS direction one way if the camp site is out of cell service (like mine usually are).

No way I'd buy something that expensive with Intel HD 3000. If you need the CPU of a sandy bridge processor get a MBP. The current gen of MBA is such a better mix of CPU/GPU for what the device is meant for.

I thought you described yourself as an anarchist. What's your definition of an anarchist? Someone who supports a lot of state control?
Anarchism is as much about abolishing capitalism as it is about abolishing the state. I am also practical in that I can separate what I consider ideal, from it is a practical reality given the current situation. Funny how you intentionally distracted from the fact that the cuts are about ideology and have nothing to do with the budget.
The state is, at least to a certain degree, accountable to some semblance of democratic control (as problematic as it may be), corporations are inherently undeomocratic institutions by design. I will also always put the working class above the haves and the corporate fat cats.

Can't wait to see what they announce. It would be nice to see a bigger jump than usual for iOS and hopefully a shipping date for Lion.

Did anyone noticed while the Safari browser, the "CANCEL" button moved to the title of the page, and the address bar was stretched across the screen??

The .mac account is a bit expensive and iDisk is just annoyingly slooooow.
However, it does work and my home Mac and my road warrior laptop stay right in sync with each other.
The original start of the is thread was about transferring four gigs of data. I love iChat for that and all of its other features. It seems that Apple is going to build a whole new world around iChat in Leopard. I look forward to it!

thats true and I agree, however best buy often offers much lower prices, which attracts me to them, hell I'm a loyal customer regardless of how crappy of a company it may be.
Who am I to mess up their business model? I often make a Tuesday trip to my local BB to pick up new releases, but it's not always true that BB beats Target's prices. If I'm shopping for a new release I'll usually check both places, Costco & Amazon and get it from the place with the lowest price or nicest "extra". My kids have received lots of "freebies" along with DVDs at Best Buy or Costco...

I never said it scaled better. In fact, I said the opposite.
However, the fact that Mac OS X's kernel is *NOT* BSD, but Mach remains. Mach is a microkernel and a freaking good one, but Mach microkernels that OS X uses has poor task switching; I'm not sure if the Mach microkernels in OS X is based on GNU/Mach (based off CMU's Mach) or the actual Mach microkernel from Carnegie-Mellon. So some of the scalability of UNIX is lost through this. But trust me, UNIX scales way beyond Windows. I've said Windows isn't for computers with more than 32 processors--that's what UNIX is for--pure science--no one needs the crap from Mac OS X and Windows to do science and mathematics research. Real men use UNIX on 8192-way systems. :) :D :)

Personally, I so wish that was true. But in reality, not all fat persons eat meat, and not all skinny people are vegetarians.
You can be a vegan and still stuff yourself full with carbonates, sugar and lots of different fats.
While I agree Steve Jobs don't strike me as a half a** kinda guy. Not a I don't eat meat I just eat bread and cheese vegetarian. Vegans are usually all in. All vegans that I know (and that is not nearly representative sample) are very frail looking. Many of whom looked normal before changing their diet.

It would be nice if Apple focused on getting airplay to work well within their own devices. I'm tired of dropping music from itunes or my iphone to my AE. It pisses me off because I purchased the AE with the sole intent of using it for airplay.

6/gallon here in he UK, or 1.32/L
Remember a US Gallon is different than a UK one. So it's closer to 5 or around $8. Still awfully high, but not quite as bad as some make out.
